Welcome, Ayla!

I'm sorry to say the version of LÖVE in the Ubuntu repos is very old. (0.5.0, as you can see. Soon, 0.8.0 will be released.)

You can add bartbes' PPA (https://launchpad.net/~bartbes/+archive/love-stable) for the latest stable version.

Why did I download the 0.7.2 version from the Ubuntu Software Center, without adding PPAs?

.loves are just .zips, so if you rename no.love to no.zip, you can unzip it to edit the demo.

What do you mean? The LÖVE in Ubuntu's repos is 0.7.2. At least on the latest version of Ubuntu. Perhaps Ayla is running an older version of Ubuntu with older repositories? If so, it should be noted that the PPA doesn't support Ubuntu version prior to 10.04.

I have Ubuntu 10.10, and without bartbes' PPA's, I would have LÖVE 0.5.0.

I have Ubuntu 11.10, and I discovered LÖVE (0.7.2) by searching LUA in the Ubuntu Software Center (I won't use it anymore to install something, only for searching)
I only added love-unstable, jdownloader and wesnoth-devel PPAs, and I have LÖVE 0.7.2...
