Freenode blocking users

Post by schme16 »

Seems our IRC has a problem at the moment:
from(christel) [Global Notice] Hi all, it appears one of our volunteers set a network ban which were way too wide last night in an attempt to deal with the current attacks; as a result a truckload of genuine users have been banned from the network, with a misleading and unhelpful message. For more information please enable +w in your client. Apologies for the inconvenience, we'll try tidy up after them now.
I've not had issues but a few people have asked me to post this just to let people no it's recognized and that it'll be fixed asap

Freenode has been doing this for a few months now. It is quite annoying.

I get system messages everyday apologizing for the poor server stability. Not to mention the constant net-splits.

I only have seen two system messages since joining, and net-splits are common, but I don't know whether I would call it constant.

EFnet rarely experiences the same problems.
