Java Love2D?

Post by notcl4y »

Will there be Love2D for Java? I really like Love2D and Java! Lua is cool too, but I don't like it uses then/do and end instead of curly braces (except of tables), the first index for the tables is 1 instead of 0.
And yes, I know that would be hard, because Java isn't easy right now :P

Code: Select all

loves_lua = "not so",
wants_to = true

Frankly, it'd be such a monumental task that you're better off using libGDX or similar than waiting for it to happen. That, or write a language with syntax similar to Java that transpiles to lua, basically your own moonscript.

But perhaps more importantly, while having preferences on various things is fine, if you get too hung up on how you want your tools to behave or work, you might never get to the actually important part of making something with them.

If someone decide that they want to rewrite/port love framework (because it so sexy and thick so everyone regardless of language should use it) to java (or, maybe, instead of lua, they manage to bind love codebase to java) and support it so it will follow love changes and so on...
Then probably?

Also, it seems, based on you posts, that you don't want to make games, you want to find different framework to fix issues that you not really sure if even issues in first place. Why just don't make game (small, medium, big) and after all of that decide if love/lua is suits you? If love/lua handicaps you? And then decide if you want to continue use love or move to something else?

Then why you even stops at love if, as you say, you don't like 1 based index and "do then" constructs and don't go use java frameworks, instead?

Maybe try Love2dCS? It's a port of löve to C#, which is a fairly similar language to Java.
(Even better if you ask me.)
