Why did love2d update its logo to the oversimplified one

Post by notcl4y »

Is it zombified by the boring oversimplified trend?

Code: Select all

loves_lua = "not so",
wants_to = true

What "boring" about it?
What "oversimplified" about it?
It's clean, simple, good looking logo, with white heart in center (which associating with, you know, love, literally name of framework), with circle split in half, using 2 calming colors: pink and light blue (maybe there backstory why exactly this colors?).
What it should be?

It's kinda stupid. Current logo looks good, modern, and allow you easily distinguish love2d from other frameworks/engines and fits love as framework design:
Simple, clean, and plain to understand.
And if you dislike it so much, you can provide support for this site (love2d.org, forums, etc) for skins, so you can switch to it.
And host on github or somewhere builds with different logo. Maybe someone like yourself might appreciate it.
Or pitch your own design to slime (since he, you know, developer of love) and then decide with him and forums/discord server what they think about your version, and if it will be considered better...
Then it might replace current "boring, oversimplified" with your "bright, detailed" one

Keep in mind that you're about six years late to the party. The current logo has been in use since 0.10.1, which was released February 24th, 2016.

But of course, given love2d is open source, you're free to replace the icon with anything you'd like. All you'll have to do is modify the source to swap in your desired logo, and you can then even distribute that executable.

They represent the gender spectrum. :nyu:

(I don't think that was rude's intent, but I like that they're similar to the design of a certain flag.)

To fill in the knowledge gap: What was the old logo to begin with?

Old: viewtopic.php?p=195040#p195040

New: viewtopic.php?p=195011#p195011

The fake lighting effects on the old windows icon have definitely gone out of style these days.

Even if it was not intendant, it's still very fitting
