New forum software?

Post by Jack5500 »

phpBB has come quite a long way, but it still feels stuck in the last century.
What do you think about a new software like Discourse for example?
There would even be a migration strategy
On a side note, how is in charge of the Löve web servers anyway?

thelinx is in charge of that, though others have some access to some parts as well; i'm not a dev though. :3
Me and my stuff :3True Neutral Aspirant. Why, yes, i do indeed enjoy sarcastically correcting others when they make the most blatant of spelling mistakes. No bullying or trolling the innocent tho.

I think phpBB is fine as it is, really. I got used to this layout so much so I can browse with my eyes closed!
But I'm accepting to change, so whatever the majority says - goes.
PM me on here or elsewhere if you'd like to discuss porting your game to Nintendo Switch via mazette!

Sure, it fine. But in my oppinion it lacks features as mentions and proper notifications. I find it really hard to track all the threads that I'm interested in without turning on email notifications for each one.
I honestly believe it fine right now, but it could be better ;)

There's a notifications dropdown at the top of the forum, which includes mentions (well, quotes at least).

+1

The last update broke personalized number of messages per page, and I hate having pages so short. Also I have the problem of having to relog when I load two tabs too quickly, despite having marked "Remember me". Sessions are very short, and the URLs with the session ID are annoying; they clobber my visited pages list and visited links are not distinguishable. There's so much I dislike from phpBB.

My favourite is MyBB. It can also import from phpBB3 directly.

Edit: I can't even try the demo of Discourse without JavaScript.

Okay, that doesn't seem to work.

I vote against Discourse. It's nigh unusable. I cannot figure out what problem it exists to solve other than to make my phone into a hand warmer.
