I've been scrounging around for good ideas for a contest, just because I thought it was a fun community thing. I think that starting up another contest, even with the "there may be no reward" clause, is very much worth doing.

Yes, I've been considering a contest for quite some time (even before that other contest), but I haven't done anything to approach the idea.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure that having a community "contest" for this is the best idea. This is a question of branding, and so far Rude has done a great job of maintaining that brand. The importance of that is not something that should be underestimated. If the submissions were all in line with that branding, fine, but then what would be the point?
I agree, I'm a big fan of consistency. Like how every version has a noticeably similar feel to the no-game screen. I'd rather keep it like that.

Though a contest would be a chance for me to stamp my graphics in LÖVE's history. :D

That was a joke I still like the default.

How dare you even consider disobedience to the mighty pig of rubbery doom?

@tentus: It hurts my eyes too. But what can I say. LÖVE hurts.

A competition ... I think it's a good idea, actually. But that would be for 0.9.0. A competition will not save you from The Pig. Also, the competition should not begin until the next code name is selected, and the no-game screen should be somewhat related to that name.

Well ... I made up that rule just now. And I don't have to follow rules anyway.

I think you could resolve the sickness issue with just slowing down the spin rate of the hearts. That's a small change that could fix it without really destroying the effect you're going for.
