Thank you, I fixed it.

However, it is probably easier to reach 80% of all paying Linux gamers rather than 80% of all paying Windows gamers.

Philosophical: Would the investment (for porting) require to sell a realistic amount of copies? Or more? And what is a 'realistic amount'?

PS: There's also Apple Games

The new beta is out (which should hopefully take care of the black screen problem):
http://2dengine.com/chains/demo.zip
http://2dengine.com/chains/Chains_Install.exe
Please let me know if it works or not.

List of other changes:
-the timers issue has been fixed so the game should no longer run slower than it is supposed to
-some new visual and sound effects
-records screen
-'tooltips' reminding you of whar the level goal is
-various bug fixes
-the game can run even if your audio card fails
-in game dialog which reports various system errors

Now it works on both computers. Well done!

The game is pretty good, and feels very "product"-like (albeit on an "indie"-level).

Some feedback:

I'm not sure the tooltips are as helpful and motivating as they are patronizing. I think you should try to find some less cheap-ass way of conveying the level goal. 8-)

Perhaps give people more visual feedback when creating long chains? Like ... explosions! (Or something).

Overall, I really enjoyed the main mechanic (making chains). But most of the time, I had no idea whether I was doing amazingly awesome or awful. How much does it cost, by the way?

You can't imagine how relieved I am. :)

I've been struggling with this problem for a while.
I know the tooltips are a bit of a copout but I couldn't come up with a visual way of conveying each level goal.
That is, each stage has a completely different goal so there's no single solution.
How much does it cost, by the way?
Haven't decided on the price point yet, it will probably be between 10-15 USD tops as it is a very short game.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Just want to mention that the new demo has taken a lot of your feedback into account.
The level goals are now conveyed way better using indicators.
I also added more effects, profile system, improved menus and more.
Also the latest demo includes 1 extra free level. Check it out. :)

The final version should be ready in a few days.

Final version of the game is out:
http://2dengine.com/chains/
We've made a lot of changes (too many to list) since we started beta testing.
So I want to thank you all for the feedback.
Lastly, you can now buy the full version for USD 15.00

I get "an unhandled win32 exception occurred in Agenoria.exe [4012]." (it is [1228] if i run chain.exe)

You broke it :(

EDIT: The old demo, when i finished the last level and clicked yes to go to the website, the game minimized... but i was running in full-screen, and now i cannot get back into the game, because even though the game has focus, it is not visible. So there is some problem with it running in fullscreen (at least the old demo, as i said, i cannot get the latest release to work at all.)

Works perfectly with XP (SP3), ATI X1250.

I like the tweaks you've done with the graphics. ^^

It turns out that the there's a bug with the game running on internationalized versions of Windows.
u9_, could you do me a huge favor and try running the latest build and tell me if it works or not:
http://2dengine.com/chains/demo.zip
or
http://2dengine.com/chains/Chains_Install.exe

It still crashes. I used the zip. Are you sure you updated it? You should 1. use version numbers in files and 2. use the game name in files (chains_demo_v1.1.zip)
