"Variable nil" error

Hey Guys, I've been staring at my code, running it through over and over, and still can't figure out why it thinks one of my local variables is nil: I assign it a value directly before I use it. I've included the .love that crashes - the error shows exactly which variable, where, and the chain of fu...

No new alpha builds?

I was wondering why the latest build on the love2d.org/builds page is from April 2, when they used to happen nightly. I was looking forward to the April 3 one because April 2 my post on bitbucket about a really bad bug that made the whole thing crash on my system was marked as solved.

I tried it for a bit too; it's basically a 3d version of Scratch with a lot more capability. (by this I mean logic segments as the default scripting method) As far as I know you can'...

Re: How to optimize hardoncollider collision checks?

Hmm, I can't seem to get past your menu, clicking on the buttons has no effect, nor does using arrow keys, wasd, enter, or space. Nevertheless you may want to make sure you are not solving multiple collisions per frame; that was a problem I had before. Happened because I collided with two objects th...

Re: Jump in HardonCollider

EDIT: Oops, someone else posted while I was writing. Oh well, pick whichever one you like better. I'm assuming you mean in a platformer . . . To make a smooth jump without the physics engine you'll need velocity.x and velocity.y variables along with your position.x and position.y variables. Then you...

Re: 3d engines?

Robin is right, something like that would never run in managed code. It simply interfaces with lua scripts so that modders can write addons in a simpler language, similar to Overgrowth. You can change most of Overgrowth in it's lua scripts, but the engine and logic code itself is written in C++.

Re: Advice to prepare for level design

I find your question confusing, but what I think you're trying to do is simply organize all the objects in your game. If that's the case then I use a really simple table system for objects. I write this assuming you don't want to do a tilemap, if you do this can help: https://love2d.org/wiki/Tutoria...

Re: HardonCollider and hump.camera?

I'm not sure why you'd want to move the collision shapes without their sprites (unless I've misunderstood what you want) I've attached a really basic .love of 3rd person top down game I just started working on. I've reverted back to 0.7.2 since the 0.8.0 version wasn't working. I use hardoncollider ...

Re: 3d engines?

I started in XNA, but got sick of how closed it is. If you only want to make games for 360, then it's probably fine. If you want to make them for PC then look elsewhere, since it only works on Windows. One of the guys at Indie Stone (Project Zomboid) wrote an article about why the beginning of his i...
