Saat mulai menulis permainan menggunakan LÖVE, hal yang penting dalam API (Antarmuka Pemrograman Aplikasi) ialah callback: love.load untuk melakukan persiapan untuk permainanmu, love.update yang digunakan untuk mengatur status permainanmu setiap frame, dan love.draw untuk menggambar status permainanmu di layar.

Kebanyakan permainan interaktif akan mengganti callback lainnya untuk menangani masukan dari pengguna, dan aspek lainnya yang ada dalam permainan yang berfitur lengkap.

LÖVE memberikan callback sementara untuk callback itu, yang bisa kau ganti didalam kodemu dengan membuat fungsimu sendiri dengan nama yang sama seperti callback tersebut:
