Surprise Monday City Generator Jam!

Post by Feikki »

Greetings, dear lovers!
It has come time for this years first Surprise Monday Jam! This weeks theme will be City Generators.

What do you mean Surprise Monday Jam? Never heard of those before?
Neither have I! Isn't this exiting?

Is this official löve jam/related to löve?
Of course not, do i look like an admin!

What are the rules?
Simple, write a City generator!
The City can be in just about any form, for example a tilemap, or bunch of pixels drawn to screen. As long as it looks like a city, I'm happy.
You can use any technologies that are publicly accessible (much like LD). So, not restricted to löve, feel free to use love3d or whatever you wish :D

How to submit your generator?
Post a reply to this thread, which includes either sources for your generator, a .love, or executable. Screenshots and time-lapses are also welcome.
If you don't feel like sharing your sources or executable, just a screenshot is fine too. After all, this is only a community jam which started of as kind of a joke :D

Time limit?
The time limit of Surprise Monday Jams is one week(ish). Again, nothing too strict, we are doing this for fun.

How to win?
The winner will be chosen by voting (method TBA). Most likely either in this thread or something else, depending on amount of participants.

Rewards?
Nope :D
This is solely for fun.

Also, if i forgot to mention anything, or you have any more questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread, or on the #love irc channel.

Any restrictions regarding the generation's prerequisites, as in,
Can it be based on prng only?
Can it be parametric?
Can it be both? (procedurally generated)
Me and my stuff :3True Neutral Aspirant. Why, yes, i do indeed enjoy sarcastically correcting others when they make the most blatant of spelling mistakes. No bullying or trolling the innocent tho.

It's a shame school is starting this week, I'll see what I can do though.
Maybe as a reward, the admins can add a title under the winner's username, like instead of "Party Member", it would be like "Part Member, Jam Winner".
PM me on here or elsewhere if you'd like to discuss porting your game to Nintendo Switch via mazette!

zorg as long as it is a generated city. You can use any functions and methods to achieve it. Which is kinda the best part. There is more than one way to do it.

Can I start using a piece of code I wrote previously?
lf = love.filesystem
ls = love.sound
la = love.audio
lp = love.physics
lt = love.thread
li = love.image
lg = love.graphics

So, after almost one week of development, I present you this:

Seriously tho, i caught the cold around the same time as i posted this Jam here so yeah, haven't had much time to code. But now, only some 48 hours left, I think i can manage to get something done.
Not what i originally planned, but hey, at least it will be something :D

That is actually a pretty nice approach. Way less resource intensive compared to what I am doing.
