Game window only refreshes when I tab to it

Hi,
I'm trying to play mari0 AE 0.10.0 v13 but the game window only refreshes when I tab away from it then return to it.
At first I thought the game was just running extremely slowly - I kept tabbing away from the window to search for fixes online. When I came back to the game, it would've updated (e.g. Mario had taken a few steps forward) I eventually realised it was receiving all my inputs but only updating the image when I revisited the window.
I've tried running it on different versions of love (0.9.2, 0.10.0 / 32bit & 64bit) but nothing has worked yet. I tried the latest version of love but when I launched it a popup warned me it may not work as it had been created on 0.10.0 and, sure enough, the game crashed immediately. I'm using Windows 10.
